【摘要】:Thecarbonresiduevalueofburnerfuelservesasaroughapproximationofthetendencyofthefueltoformdepositsinvaporizingpot-typeandsleeve-typeburners.Similarly,providedalkylnitratesareabsent(orifpresent,providedthetestisperformedonthebasefuelwithoutadditive)thecarbonresidueofdieselfuelcorrelatesapproximatelywithcombustionchamberdeposits.Thecarbonresiduevalueofmotoroil,whileatonetimeregardedasindicativeoftheamountofcarbonaceousdepositsamotoroilwouldforminthecombustionchamberofanengine,isnowconsideredtobeofdoubtfulsignificanceduetothepresenceofadditivesinmanyoils.Forexample,anash-formingdetergentadditivemayincreasethecarbonresiduevalueofanoilyetwillgenerallyreduceitstendencytoformdeposits.Thecarbonresiduevalueofgasoilisusefulasaguideinthemanufactureofgasfromgasoil,whilecarbonresiduevaluesofcrudeoilresiduums,cylinderandbrightstocks,areusefulinthemanufactureoflubricants.FIG.1ApparatusforDeterminingConradsonCarbonResidue1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheamountofcarbonresidue(Note1)leftafterevaporationandpyrolysisofanoil,andisintendedtoprovidesomeindicationofrelativecoke-formingpropensities.Thistestmethodisgenerallyapplicabletorelativelynonvolatilepetroleumproductswhichpartiallydecomposeondistillationatatmosphericpressure.Petroleumproductscontainingash-formingconstituentsasdeterminedbyTestMethodD482orIPMethod4willhaveanerroneouslyhighcarbonresidue,dependingupontheamountofashformed(Note2andNote4).Note18212;Thetermcarbonresidueisusedthroughoutthistestmethodtodesignatethecarbonaceousresidueformedafterevaporationandpyrolysisofapetroleumproductundertheconditionsspecifiedinthistestmethod.Theresidueisnotcomposedentirelyofcarbon,butisacokewhichcanbefurtherchangedbypyrolysis.Thetermcarbonresidueiscontinuedinthistestmethodonlyindeferencetoitswidecommonusage.Note28212;ValuesobtainedbythistestmethodarenotnumericallythesameasthoseobtainedbyTestMethodD524.Approximatecorrelationshavebeenderived(seeFig.X1.1),butneednotapplytoallmaterialswhichcanbetestedbecausethecarbonresiduetestisappliedtoawidevarietyofpetroleumproducts.Note38212;ThetestresultsareequivalenttoTestMethodD4530,(seeFig.X1.2).Note48212;Indieselfuel,thepresenceofalkylnitratessuchasamylnitrate,hexylnitrate,oroctylnitratecausesahigherresiduevaluethanobservedinuntreatedfuel,whichcanleadtoerroneousconclusionsastothecokeformingpropensityofthefuel.ThepresenceofalkylnitrateinthefuelcanbedetectedbyTestMethodD4046.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
